What a Difference Non-Metal Fillings Can Make

Tooth Colored Fillings (or Composites), when placed with exacting technique, get as close as possible to restoring the teeth to original strength in the most conservative fashion, The tooth colored fillings are a very hard “plastic” that bond (micromechanically fuse) to the tooth to hold it together.
The older style Amalgam fillings (metal murcury fillings) have multiple disadvantages: Amalgam is a metal which expands and contracts with hot and cold. Therefore, with every meal the teeth are being weakened and over time, and depending on the size of the filling, the tooth becomes susceptible to fracturing. Amalgam also contains mercury, which is a very toxic element.
As a proactive clinician, Dr. Tsai only uses tooth colored fillings and is an expert at determining whether or not your metal mercury fillings need to be replaced.
